How to Integrate Adsense Into Your Blog Unobtrusively

The ads that come with Google Adsense can be a great way to monetize your website or your blog. If they are done well then they can seem like a natural part of your site. If they are done wrong, then they will stick out like a sore thumb. None of your viewers will enjoy a site with ads that are sticking in their face. That is why so many devices like pop up blockers exist. People hate ads. Admit it, you hate ads too. That is why today we are going to take a look at the ways that you can make your ads attractive to the eye.

Keep Your Colors Matching
It is highly unlikely that the default colors of an adsense ad will match your site. If you do not have matching ads, they will stand out, which is not unobtrusive. You need to be sure that the colors of your ads match. This is easy enough to do since this is one of the default options when creating an ad. Your goal is to match the hexidecimal numbers. The background of the ad should match the background color of your blog. The text color of the ad should match the text color of your blog. There are some people who make a case for contrast, but that is probably more about the click through rates than the blend.

Keep It Small
Large ads are way more noticeable then small ones. While you do want to encourage clicks, ads that are too big can distract. Avoid the leader board size or anything bigger. As a rule of thumb, you should try to keep the ads less then one quarter of the text on local element size. Anything bigger will look like ads with text, not text with ads. You don’t want your site to be seen as a spam site.

Place Them Well
It has become the custom on some sites to place ads in the middle of text. Resist this urge. It annoys readers. Your first choice should be at the bottom of the page or between individual postings on a blog. Side bars are your next most preferential spot. Top banner should be last as they can slow down loads. Remember not everyone has high speed.

If you follow all of these guidelines then your blog will have great, but not obvious ads in no time. No matter what your template is. This will not only make it easier on your readers, but improve your blog's click through rate as well.
